An exceptional document we present today with these very old pictures taken on St Kilda before the evacuation of the island in 1930. Made at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century, these images are a moving testimony of life on the archipelago, cut off from the rest of the world. You can see the inhabitants in their everyday life or hunting birds. Remains of a forgotten world.

Document exceptionnel que nous vous présentons aujourd’hui avec ces très anciennes photographies prises sur St Kilda avant l’évacuation de l’île en 1930. Réalisées à la fin du 19e siècle et au début du 20e siècle, ces images sont un témoignage poignant de la vie sur l’archipel coupé du monde. Vous pouvez y observer les habitants dans leur quotidien ou encore pendant la chasse aux oiseaux. Vestiges d’un monde oublié qui ravira les amateurs d’histoire.

The photo of the women holding the roll of tweed is of my Grandmother, and the little boy leaning in against her ( wearing what looks like a skirt) is my father Calum MacDonald, and the girl is one of my Aunts. They lived in house No. 3 which is now the museum on the island
